1st Grade English and Writing
Students will develop a love for the
English language and build good writing skills
through the use of the Shirley English program,
and the Six Traits of Writing program.
Both of these programs use activities that will
meet the visual, auditory, and kinesthetic
learning styles of all students, along with
merging a strong foundation of the writing
process. Students will be able to use their
learned grammar and writing skills automatically
with success independently, which will lead them
to be motivated and to enjoy the writing
process. Please be sure and have your child
share his or her writing with you at home so you
can watch the progression of development.
Handwriting
Neatness will be stressed in all areas
of the curriculum. Proper formation of letters
will be taught and practiced during handwriting
lessons each day. On the next page is a chart
showing proper formation of manuscript letters.
Please encourage neatness and proper letter
formation on homework assignments.
