Only those medicines that are medically
necessary during school hours for a student's attendance, or written in an IEP
should be sent to school. Persons who may assist your child with medications
include the school nurse, and trained campus staff. Any medication sent must
be in the original container, and properly labeled with the students name. This
is a state requirement.
Any over-the-counter medication required
longer than two weeks must have the review and approval of the school nurse, and
requires a physicians order.
Policy permits a responsible, trained
student to carry and /or self administer medication for asthma, severe allergic
(anaphylactic) reaction, or diabetes on his/her person for use in a life
threatening situation with written order of physician, parent, and school nurse
approval.
Students
diagnosed with diabetes, seizures, asthma, or other chronic health conditions
must have an action plan filled out in the nurses office and signed by your
physician. These must be updated annually, or as physicians orders change.
Please work with your school nurse
to determine how your child’s needs can best be met during the school day.
Many times your doctor can help you by discussing scheduling options that do not
disrupt your child’s learning.
